wsappx

WSAPPX is a development that runs in the background on Windows 10 and Windows 8 on a computer as a part of the Windows Store and is considered a landmark application of Microsoft. It is used to install, update, and uninstallation of Store applications. However, it is not required further after the installation of all updates.  Though, at times in some scenarios, it might be possible that this process is consuming a high disk, CPU, and memory.

In WSAPPX High Disk Usage, few things can be done to troubleshoot and curtail the issues proactively by following methods.

Troubleshooting Methods

1. Increase Virtual Memory

Firstly, the virtual memory size may need to be stretched out. This can be done by following techniques.

  • Type “performance” in the search bar and select “Adjust Appearance vs Performance in Windows.”
  • Select the ‘Advanced’ tab among the tabs on the top.
  • Go to “Virtual Memory” and click on ‘Change.
  • Uncheck the ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drive’s checkboxes.
  • Select the drive where the OS is installed and click on “Custom size”.
  • Set the ‘Initial size’ equivalent to the size of your RAM but in MB and the “Maximum size” to double the Initial size.
  • Click on “Set” and then “OK”.
  •  Restart your device

2. Disable Windows Store

Secondly, it involves two steps. Not only by the group policy editor but also by the registry editor. Here are the techniques for both methods.

  • Type ‘gpedit.msc’ in Start Search and press Enter. It opens the Local Group Policy Editor.
  • Next click on ‘Computer Configuration’ and select ‘Administrative Templates.
  • Then go to ‘Windows Components’ and select ‘Store’.
  • Find the ‘Turn off Store application’ setting in the right pane.
  • Select ‘Enable’ and ‘Apply’.
  • Change the value of AppXSvc in Registry
  • Open Registry and click on the popup link
  • In the right panel, change the value of Start to 4.
  • Restart the computer.

3. Troubleshoot in Clean Boot State

Finally, if the above-mentioned steps do not work out properly then these steps might be required to perform a clean boot in order to make Windows run on a few essential driver sets and startup programs smoothly. This will help facilitate the system manually isolating the issue because of startup programs.

Solutions to wsappx take the high disk and CPU Usage on Windows 10

In order to completely eradicate the wsappx taking high disk and CPU usage on Windows 10, these three most effective procedures can fix it promptly. These methods work to fix errors on both Windows 10 and Windows 8.

Solution 1. Disable Windows Store to fix wsappx High CPU Issue

Windows Store is one of the major causes of wsappx high CPU issue. However, it can effectively disable the windows store by using local group policy and registry editor.

1. Use Local Group Policy:

Step 1. Press the Windows logo key + R, type gpedit.msc and click “OK”.

Step 2. Enter Local Computer Policy and go to Computer Configuration.

Select “Administrative Templates”, expand Windows Components, and double-click to open “Store”.

Step 3. Select “Turn off the Store application” and click “Edit policy setting”.

Step 4. Change the status to “Enabled”. Click “Apply” and “OK” to save and exit.

After following the above steps, restart the PC to check whether this solution works. If this solution fails to fix the high disk usage problem, please move on to the solutions below.

2. Use Registry Editor:

It’s quite realistic that the windows registry editor is not a basic-level application and generally works for administrators to control applications and change settings on Windows computers.

Any false operation may cause serious results. Therefore, we suggest you be very careful while following the steps to disable Windows Store so as to resolve the wsappx high disk usage issue.

Step 1. Type Regedit in search and hit enter to bring up the registry editor. Click on the option of “Yes” to open it.

Step 2. Navigate to the popup link: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore.

Step 3. Create a new DWORD value within the Widows Store keys, name it “RemoveWindowsStore”, and set the value as “1”.

Save the changes and exit the registry. Furthermore, restart the windows.

It’s very important to note that if we disable Windows Store, third-party Windows Store applications and the programs would not be able to get installed or updated. To enable the installation and update this can be done by activating Windows Store by using the above two recommended methods – disabling turning off the Store application or changing the value of RemoveWindowsStore to “0”.

Solution 2. Extend Virtual Memory

Another efficient solution that can fix wsappx high disk usage or high CPU usage issue is to extend the virtual memory by implementing these steps mentioned ahead:

Step 1. Type performance Search, high Enter, and select “Adjust Appearance vs. Performance in Windows”.

Step 2. Go to the advanced tab and then click “Change” under the Virtual Memory section.

Step 3. Uncheck “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”, then select the OS drive and click “Custom size”.

Step 4. Set the Initial Size equal to your RAM size in MB, and the Maximum size to double the Initial Size.

Step 5. Click “Set” and “OK” to keep all the changes.

Then restart the computer. It is significant to verify if this helps resolve the high CPU issue.

Solution 3. Check and Clean Disk Internal Error

However, in those cases where this problem occurred recently, performing a disk check should be considered. Sometimes, when a disk captures an internal error or unknown file system mistakes, the computer may not run properly, resulting in high disk usage or high CPU error.

Solution 4. Change Value of AppXSVC in Registry

According to some experienced IT experts, it seems that changing the value of AppxSvs in the registry may also help to resolve the wsappx high CPU or high disk usage error.

These are the following steps that may indeed turn out to be helpful:

Step 1. Open the registry editor on your computer.

Step 2. Navigate to this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AppXSvc.

Step 3. Locate the key and change the Start value in the right panel to “4”.

Step 4. Click “OK” to save the changes and exit Registry.

In the end, restart the computer to see if the problem has been changed.

Solution 5. Finally, completely scan the computer to check for Virus

Most people frequently ignore that this problem is caused by viruses or malware infection in certain cases. If the computer is not fully scanned install an antivirus program as soon as possible.

Step 1. Run anti-virus software on your PC and let it scan your computer disk.

Step 2. Once the antivirus software finds suspicious files, get it wiped out in the nick of time.

Step 3. Restart the computer to see if there is any change.

Solution 6. Troubleshoot in the clean boot state

The last way that you can try to resolve the wsappx high CPU usage issue is to perform a Clean Boot. It will make Windows run only on a few essential drivers for settings and startup programs.

This will help you manually resolve the wsappx high CPU or high disk usage issue from startup:

Step 1. Type MSConfig in Search and press enter to open System Configuration Utility.

Step 2. Go to the general tab; click “Selective Startup”, and check “Load system services” and “Use original boot configuration”.

Click “OK” to continue.

Step 3. Go to the Services tab, select “Hide All Microsoft Services” and click “Disable all”.

Click “Apply” and “OK” to keep all the changes.

Step 4. Go to the Services tab, select “Hide All Microsoft Services” and click “Disable all”.  Click “Apply” and “OK” to keep all the changes.
